How to Boil Silicone Tubing
Silicone is a widely used material in very many industries. This material has wide applications in medicine and manufacturing industries. In medicine, it is being used for making tubing devices such as the medical feeding tubes. This device has extensive application both in hospitals and at home to provide nutrients to patients are unable to swallow food on their own. In manufacturing industry, it is largely used for tubing. The silicone tubing process also has very extensive application in various industries not only manufacturing. Silicone material is also used to make tubing pipes especially for channelling fluids and the sorts. The silicone tubing material often has a very flimsy look. This might confuse very many people thinking that it cannot support high temperature and heat. This is not true. Silicone tubing has high ability to stand up to high pressure and temperatures. This is why heating has been one of the traditional method used to treat this material. This is a traditional practice that is commonly used in hospitals and engineering. The three leading industry where silicone is wide sued are medicine, engineering, and moulding. It is particularly used to mould bottles such as for beers and soft drink. In all these application, the material needs to be sterilized which is best done by boiling. For the brewing industry, most people might prefer to use copper. However, the use of silicon tubing has remained very affordable and cost effecting. It therefore remains the most preferred method for tubing and moulding. For tubing purposes, it is very important to choose the correct type of material because it will be subjected to high temperatures when boiling. The process of boiling silicone tube takes place at very high temperatures which is usually above its boiling point of 212 degrees Fahrenheit. To be ready for use, the tube must first be sterilized by boiling at this temperature. The first process of boiling silicone tubing is to set up the place with the right items needed. You need to have a big boiling pot. This pot should be big enough to accommodate the entire silicone that you are planning to boil. Your next step is to fill the pot with water. The pot must have enough water (if not full) so as to submerge the tubing material that is being boiled. When this is done, set the pot on fire. Continue heating the pot until the water reaches its boiling point. The water might take several minutes to start boiling. However, before you start the process of boiling silicone tubing, ensure that you check the package for some instructions. Check for instructions such as heat rating because you will use this to determine the boiling temperature. Ordinary tubing usually has heat rating of about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. However, some might be very different as per the manufacture details. When the water starts boiling, drop your silicone tubes gently in water. Ensure that it is fully covered with the boiling water and let it boil for about 2 to 5 minutes.
